1.4 - The remaining letters

On page 1.3 you became familiar with the letters which are used in the English alphabet but may sound different in Ukrainian. The remaining letters are found only in Cyrillic alphabets, so they may be less familiar and need to be learnt carefully. Click on a letter to hear how it sounds.


Note: The letter Щ consists of two sounds: Ш + Ч, as in English church.




Soft sign

Note: This does not have a sound on its own. Its function is to soften (palatalise) consonants which it follows (more later).
